Gerard Schrieff will be riding the 100km Karoo to Coast race from Uniondale to Knysna on 23 September 2012 to honour the memory of his son Matthew.

Bronwyn and Gerard Schrieff have initiated the REMEMBERING MATTHEW CAMPAIGN to assist with funding for the Neonatal Unit equipment project and invite you to sponsor Gerard for every kilometer he successfully rides in the 100km Karoo to Coast Mountain Bike race from Uniondale to Knysna on 23rd September 2012.

Baby Matthew Ethan Schrieff was born prematurely at 24 weeks on 10th April 2012. Sadly this much wanted and much loved first child, whose name means “God’s Gift”, did not survive. Bronwyn and Gerard have now begun a beautiful legacy in the form of this campaign to honour the memory of Matthew. The REMEMBERING MATTHEW CAMPAIGN aims to unify people in the act of giving to those who are most in need. Please journey with Gerard and sponsor his ride.

“Losing Matthew was a traumatic experience. However, we decided to respond to this adversity with a positive initiative that will contribute to an organisation that we believe can, and will, provide enhanced care for babies in the public health care sector. It was the kind donation of a few UK-based friends that provided the catalyst for this idea of raising funds for the Peninsula Maternity Trust. I thought I’d combine my love for mountain biking and use the Karoo to Coast mountain bike race as a rallying point. Nothing can bring Matthew back to us. However, we pray that through this initiative, his legacy will be a gift to many babies and their respective families.”
