The Hospital Facilities Board hosted a fundraising dinner at the Greenways Hotel on 23 November 2011 to celebrate the 95th birthday of the Mowbray Maternity Hospital and to launch the Centenary Campaign.

Attended by Premier Helen Zille and Minister of Health for the Western Cape Mr Theuns Botha, an elegant evening of music and food was enjoyed. Provincial encouragement for the fundraising efforts of Peninsula Maternity Trust, and the overwhelming support from our friends and donors was greatly appreciated. New friends were made which was the aim of the evening. The function also appealed for support with funding for the neonatal equipment upgrade project. We achieved our target of securing funds for the Ultrasound Echocardiogram machine as well a phototherapy unit. Additionally funds were also received for the operational expenses of the Trust.

Tanya Golden, Chairperson of the Hospital Facilities Board launched the Centenary Campaign which aims to raise funds for the upgrade of facilities and equipment at Mowbray Maternity Hospital by 2016, when it will celebrate its 100 years.

Premier Helen Zille handed us a letter of endorsement, and Mr. Botha supported the fundraising efforts by saying, “The Hospital needs funds that cannot be allocated from our health budget – the primary health care needs of the province are just too overwhelming”.
